With The journey along the Via Francigena the annual appointment with Lazio-Terra is renewed, a project sponsored by the Councillorship for Culture, Entertainment and Sport, and subsidised by the Presidency of the Latium Region, created by Marco Delogu and produced by Zoneattive, aimed at promoting the Latium territory, asserting its contemporary identity which is all to be discovered. After concentrating photographic investigation in past editions on the Latium coastline, this year is dedicated to the Via Francigena. The Via Francigena is one of history’s itineraries, an important road, travelled in the past by thousands of pilgrims journeying to Rome and also one of the great communicating routes that crossed Europe during the Middle Ages. A route bearing great witness to the ancient roots of Europe’s cultural identity of which this project has attempted to rediscover the origins and reassess the power with an intensive workshop that took 12 young photographers, directed by Olivo Barbieri and David Farrell, to travel the 170 kilometres of the Via Francigena present in this region, returning to us an engaging, original and artistic perspective of an itinerary made of history, art and spirituality.
